Zombie Apocalypse | Reviews of indie adventure games, roguelikes, board games, and video games

Living Up to the Name

With a blog named “Zombie Apocalypse” it’s probably strange that I haven’t actually written much about about zombies. I recently played a couple zombie themed games, more by coincidence than design, which seemed to capture what I was looking for.<< MORE >>

In on the Secret

I ask some random questions of indie developers Twofold Secret, makers of the hit games 'Where We Remain' and 'Sanctuary 17'.<< MORE >>

Late to the Party

Very slowly, some of the hit games that have been released for the iPhone are finding their way to Android phones. Recently, an iPhone game and video game industry darling, Game Dev Story, was made available in the Android App Market and I hungrily leapt to purchase it after long seeing it touted about through Twitter. << MORE >>

Dreams of Clay and Cardboard

I had just about completely forgotten about the indie adventure game The Dream Machine by Cockroach, Inc. Recently, I learned from The Dream Machine’s development blog feed that part two of the game was about to be released and that the entire series could be preordered. << MORE >>

Risk Assessment

My fiancée and I play a lot of games together. Quiet weekends and weekday evenings while we wait for dinner to cook are great times to get in some board games. As such, I’m always on the lookout for good two player games. << MORE >>

Later, feeling guilty about my aborted session with Snakes of Avalon, I gave the game another shot and powered through the first bit of it, resigned to the fact that things were going to get weird and that perhaps I’d find meaning from it all later. << MORE >>

Rules for the Ultimate Adventure

I’ve always kept an informal list of what I’ve liked and what I didn’t so that one day if I ever got around to designing my own game I’d know what to avoid and what to in include in its design. ...<< MORE >>

Playing at World Domination

There are many video games I consistently revisit even though I’ve played them innumerable times and I certainly have a stack of newer games I should be playing. It’s the lure of the familiar, an entertaining game mechanic, or a challenge that I enjoy besting that constantly draws me back in. The PC game Evil Genius is one of those games. ... << MORE >>

Familiar Territory

Breaking away from my Minecraft addiction, I recently finished The Silver Lining: Part 2. ...<< MORE >>
