Zombie Apocalypse. Reviews of indie adventure games, roguelikes, board games, and video games

Beauty and Violence

Steam sales are an evil, evil thing. Games that I’m only slightly interested in suddenly become attractive thanks to their limited-time-only rock bottom price. I’ve been repeatedly seduced into buying games that I don’t really have time to play and sadly have amassed a nice collection of un-played blockbusters. No more. I’ve made it my goal to start getting through these games and not let those purchases go to waste. One of those untouched games I’ve picked up is Far Cry 2. << MORE >>

The Best Adventure in Years

I’m going to cut to the chase on this one. I absolutely loved playing Gemini Rue from start to finish. It’s easily the best adventure game I’ve played in years. ...<< MORE >>

Nostalgia isn't always rose-colored.

I was very excited to learn that AGDI was remaking my least favorite King's Quest, King's Quest III. ...<< MORE >>

Living Up to the Name

With a blog named “Zombie Apocalypse” it’s probably strange that I haven’t actually written much about about zombies. I recently played a couple zombie themed games, more by coincidence than design, which seemed to capture what I was looking for.<< MORE >>

In on the Secret

I ask some random questions of indie developers Twofold Secret, makers of the hit games 'Where We Remain' and 'Sanctuary 17'.<< MORE >>

Late to the Party

Very slowly, some of the hit games that have been released for the iPhone are finding their way to Android phones. Recently, an iPhone game and video game industry darling, Game Dev Story, was made available in the Android App Market and I hungrily leapt to purchase it after long seeing it touted about through Twitter. << MORE >>

Dreams of Clay and Cardboard

I had just about completely forgotten about the indie adventure game The Dream Machine by Cockroach, Inc. Recently, I learned from The Dream Machine’s development blog feed that part two of the game was about to be released and that the entire series could be preordered. << MORE >>

Risk Assessment

My fiancée and I play a lot of games together. Quiet weekends and weekday evenings while we wait for dinner to cook are great times to get in some board games. As such, I’m always on the lookout for good two player games. << MORE >>

Charging to the right

It didn’t take much to convince me to pick up the recent PC release of the indie side-scrolling real time strategy game Swords and Soldiers by Ronimo Games. The game is is loud, brash, and funny. << MORE >>

Drunken Delusions

Not too long ago I started playing the indie developed adventure game Snakes of Avalon but initially didn’t get very far. The game was over for me when, after a few minutes in, the main character had a dialogue with a poster on the wall of a bar. Later, feeling guilty about my aborted session with Snakes of Avalon, I gave the game another shot and powered through the first bit of it, resigned to the fact that things were going to get weird and that perhaps I’d find meaning from it all later. << MORE >>
